While I am a business man in life, one of my main fears is losing one of my loved ones to online predators. My goal here today is to teach other's how to protect their family from online scams and predators!
The internet is a dangerous place! Things like Myspace and Chat room's have created a virtual playground for those who prey on innocent children. These children are often mislead into chats with older men, and even women in some cases. These chat's often lead into much more adult topics. Many people know about this, so why am I telling you?
Because it CAN HAPPEN TO YOUR KID! Many people believe it happens on the news or to a friend, but never to your own child. So how can you prevent this tragedy from happening?
1. Talk to your child about the internet and what to watch out for. Teach him/her about the dangers of people who try to talk to them or of myspace. Make him understand that there are people out there who are not friendly on the internet.
2. Create a seperate account on the computer for you!!! You may have some VERY sensitive documents on your computer, such as credit card information, taxes, or anything else that will ruin your life if stolen. Make him his own account with limited privileges so if something happens with the computer, it's only his school work that is lost, not your life!!
3. Watch and record all activity that happens to be on the computer! Protecting your child is the best thing you can do! I use BIG BROTHER software (click to check it out) to monitor all my children's activity. This software will let you see if your child us up to anything suspicious, such as MYSPACE use, or any chat's you don't want him/her involved in!
I hope this article helps in the quest to protect your loved ones from the sometimes dangerous internet!
